Trust in the dental office
When all is said and done, there is really nothing more important than trust when it comes to building your dental practice.
The best, most thriving practices get this. So how do you achieve it?
It’s by doing the ‘right thing’.
How many times have you heard this expression and what does it really mean?
What it means is doing something that hurts you in some way simply because it is the right thing for someone else. In this case the ‘someone else’ is usually your patient, but sometimes your staff.
For example someone comes in asking for some kind of expensive treatment that you know is not right for them. Maybe they ask for veneers and ortho would be better but you don’t do ortho. What do you do?
The ‘right thing’ is to explain both options, the pros and cons of each and what you would do if they were your teeth. If they choose ortho, you lost what could have been a very profitable case. But you gained the respect and admiration of not only the patient but also your staff.
Believe me; they are watching what you do. If you create treatment plans that are more in your best interest than the patients, they notice. They won’t say anything, but they know what is going on.
When you do the right thing every time, both your patients and your staff get behind you and support you in all things.
We need to realize that losing that veneer case may seem like a loss, but if your honesty causes your assistant and that patient to refer you 3 more families because you can be trusted you gain a lot more.
It is the old short term pain, long term gain.
Course Updates
The Dental Manager’s Training Program is right around the corner (October 11-14). It is almost full but you can still get in on it if you register right away. You can click here for information on this. We have a number of very accomplished managers attending including several multiple location practices. You learn from us and from the combined knowledge of the group.
The Dental Practice Management Seminar in Jamaica is just getting off the ground. Our last seminar we had attendees from Australia, Alaska, Canada, mainland US and even Scotland.
So far we have had interest from not just North America but also Norway and even Egypt. It is a fantastic experience learning how our colleagues from around the world practice. The issues are more similar than different.
I have just added another speaker to the agenda. Trent Wehrhahn who does the dental marketing and website for our own practice has been added to teach the key concepts of dental marketing.
I will be speaking on what I believe are the key elements of successful dental practice.
My office manager, Craig will be speaking to the managers, staff and spouses on their roles in supporting the dentist and the practice.
Someone emailed to make sure there will be time in the schedule to have fun down there. Don’t worry. This is meant to be a break, but you will also learn a lot; both from us and from the other attendees as we will also be having round table discussions where we discuss issues as a group.
I am aiming for a 2 hour talk each day so there will be lots of time to enjoy the amenities of the resort.
There will also be lots of time for informal one on ones with all 3 of us for your specific questions (such as on the golf course??).
As I mentioned everything is included from golf, scuba, food, drinks, water skiing, etc. Whatever they have there seems to be included so it is a hassle free vacation.
You can get more details here https://dentalmanagementsecrets.com/jamaica-seminar and I hope to see you in Jamaica.
We only have a small number of rooms booked as that is all they will allow. The whole idea is to make this an intimate group who gets to know each other and have 2 way interaction. At this point there is space, but if you are interested I would encourage you to register early.
All for now,
