I know hundreds of dentists, and they are all different.
We all have things we love and things we don’t.
Most of us want to be successful, but have never defined exactly what it means to be successful to us personally.
When we see someone with a nice car or a nice house we think they must be successful.
But if these purchases required a large amount of debt for a person who is stressed out by debt, then they really are not at peace and happy and therefore not successful in my opinion.
Some people thrive on excellence and quality and pride in their work.
Some strive for financial security.
Some love the relationships we build with our patients and staff.
Some like time off.
Some like to live in lavish surroundings at work and at home.
Some want to give their family a great life.
Some want to make a lot of money because they like to spend a lot of money.
Some hate debt, others want to use the leverage of other people’s money to juice up their returns.
I know exactly what success means to me and I have been working toward that outcome for years so it is no surprise that I am happy in where I am at.
So what about you?
What gives you the greatest joy? The greatest satisfaction? Peace of mind. Do you have a crystal clear picture of where you want to be a year from now? 5 years? 20 years?
Imagine if you could set out your ideal future world and some day wake up living it?
Well you can if you figure out where you want to be and a plan to get there. It also helps to get advice from someone who has achieved what you want to achieve.
No matter what your dreams or goals, if you are a dentist your dental practice will always occupy a large portion of your life. So it is essential that your practice is fulfilling and helping move you toward your goals.
If not, it is hard to be successful. It is hard to be happy out of the office if you are not happy in the office or if it does not support you to the level you require.
And yes, any practice can be made either worse or better. So why not choose better?
I have also found that most dentists don’t like management. We like doing teeth and patients.
How would it impact your happiness and success if you could delegate more of this?
I have a large practice with 60 staff and I probably spend less time managing it than you do. How do I do this? I have an excellent office manager. This is why we have developed a seminar specifically for dental office managers.
There is no comparable course that I am aware of and we have been running it out of Vegas, but now are adding several addition locations across North America.
The idea is this: We dentists don’t know how to manage so we can’t train our office managers on how to manage. But my office manager knows how and he can train them.
He is real world; he manages my office. He does not teach theory; he teaches dental people how to manage. Because most dental managers are dental people with no management know-how.
The impact this course has had on the offices that have attended is staggering. This creates a double win: more profit and less stress and hassle of dealing with staff issues. It also makes your practice more valuable.

As 2011 winds down this is a great time to start thinking about how you want 2012 to turn out.
Same old same old or better?
There is a wise old saying: ‘When the student is ready the teacher appears”. Are you ready to make a move forward?
We can help with our on-line programs, one on one consulting and now manager training.
All the best,
Dr Dave
